Promoting Self Care in Youth with HIV/AIDS

Granting Agency:
Foster Foundation and the Foundation for Treatment of Children with AIDS

Time Period:
October 1, 2005 through June 30, 2007

Purpose:
The purpose of this grant from the Foster Foundation was to promote self care of children and adolescents with HIV/AIDS. Center staff, a Childrens Hospital and Regional Medical Center social worker, and a faculty member from the University of Washington School of Nursing collaborated with staff in the HIV/AIDS clinical area to develop tools and methods to assess youth readiness (not ready, unsure, or ready) for self care. Interventions were designed to match the readiness stage of the youth and build on the youth's strengths.
