Description:
The Parent Support Program (PSP) offers peer support to Washington State families of children with special health care needs or chronic health conditions. Parents requesting emotional support are connected to trained, experienced volunteer parents. The one-to-one matches are made according to several relevant criteria:
child's diagnosis
child's type of treatment
age of child
needs and concerns of the parent and family etc.
The parent connections take place primarily over the telephone with the purpose of providing emotional support and increased awareness of community resources and information. Partnerships include community-based "Parent-to-Parent" programs and other support organizations throughout the state and/or nation.
